The 2009-2010 school year is my third year as Assistant Principal at Hendrix Junior High School and my sixteenth year in the Mesa Unified School District as an educator. For the first 13 years of my career I was a Social Studies teacher at Westwood High School where I taught eight different courses over that span. I was presented with the Wal*Mart Teacher of the Year Award for the 2005 – 2006 school year. I was also the Head J.V. Baseball Coach for five years, sponsor of numerous clubs including Close-Up, which facilitates taking students to Washington D.C., and the Audio-Visual Club. I have also had the opportunity to lead delegations of student ambassadors from various high schools to approximately 20 countries during the summer months over a period of ten years.
I received my Bachelors Degree from the State University of New York at Brockport, with majors in Criminal Justice and Psychology and a minor in Political Science. My Secondary Education Teaching Certificate and Masters degree in Secondary Education were received from Northern Arizona University. I have completed approximately 90 district or graduate professional development hours since the completion of my Masters degree.
As Assistant Principal I am responsible for student activities and athletics, discipline, emergency procedures and school security, and share responsibility for the academically successful PRIDE program.
Hendrix Junior High School is also a candidate school awaiting authorization to become an IB World School.
