All students may choose to earn the Mesa Public Schools Honor for Excellence in Service Learning. Students who earn this honor will receive:
- A special seal on their graduation diploma
- A notation on their transcript
The Honor in Service Learning will be awarded to students for their completion of 150 hours of unpaid service throughout their four years of high school. Those hours include preparation, action, and reflection. Freshmen may apply for Option 2 upon graduation from 8th grade.
Students may earn service hours from a compination of cirriculm-based and extracurricular service.

Planned activities
Activities MUST be approved by the Service Learning Coach BEFORE the student begins recieving credit for the service hours. Once the spring reflection process is completed, a new cycle has begun, and students may not record hours from the previous year.
Document on Time Card (due May 1)
Service learning activities will not be approved which:
- Relate to a for-profit business
- Are done as part of religious education or a religious worship service
- Benefit the student's relatives
- Are "babysitting for free"
- Displace a paid employee.
Summarizes what the student learned from the year's service experiences.
Scheduled during the first week of May.
