We would like to welcome you and your child to an
exciting year in fifth grade at Highland School. It is
going to be a great year and I am looking forward to
having your child in my classroom.
The fifth grade teachers have been brainstorming
and planning an exciting curriculum. The main themes for
science this year: Mystery Powders, What's the Matter?
Flight and Space and Science Camp. We will be spending
the night at Lake Pleasant in November for our yearly
science adventures. In Social Studies we will be learning
the 50 states, studying the early explorers and will
celebrate Yesteryear in February.
I appreciate and enjoy parental assistance
and feel that you and I should work together as a team in
the best interests of your child. If you have one or two
hours a week that you would like to volunteer in the
classroom, please let me know.
In addition, I need some very special
helpers. The Art Masterpiece program is an exciting
opportunity for parents to get involved. A volunteer
parent is trained and then visits my classroom once every
two weeks in the Spring to present a great masterpiece.
The presentation normally lasts about 15 minutes. I need
one volunteer to do this. Also, we encourage all parents
who would like to help chaperone our science camp
fieldtrip in November to please sign up for this
wonderful experience.
Thank you in advance and I look forward to
working with your child this school year!
