Application Process for Certificated Positions Top

Certificated positions include:

  • Administrator
  • Teacher
  • Counselor
  • Psychologist
  • Nurse

There are two steps involved when applying for these positions:

  1. Application materials are completed and submitted
  2. Screening interview is conducted (see below)

NOTE: You will not be considered for any openings unless all application materials have been signed and submitted, and your screening interview has been completed.

APPLICATION MATERIALS

Mesa Public Schools accepts applications for employment throughout the year. All positions are filled from completed files. Application materials may be faxed to Mesa Public Schools, attention Yvette Orozco, at (480) 472-0422. Your complete applicant file must include:

  • A completed application.
    Be sure to complete and sign page five, and to include a signed "Notice to Consumer and Authorization" form.
  • An unofficial copy of your transcript(s) of university credits.
  • A college or university placement file,
    OR
    Three letters of recommendation
    (all letters must be dated and signed by the person making the recommendation).

    NOTE: One of the recommendations must be from an employer on official letterhead, signed and dated within the last two years (most recent administrator preferred).

  • A copy of your current, valid Arizona certificate.

Due to NCLB Highly Qualified requirements, the following documents will be required upon selection and hire: fingerprint clearance card and copies of all AEPA test results. Please provide copies of these documents as they become available.

Please be aware that the certification process may take up to 4 months.

SCREENING INTERVIEW  Top
Individual screening interviews are scheduled through the Human Resources office for all positions except administrative, counseling and psychologist.

  • From mid-October through mid-June the interview is scheduled by the applicant. To schedule your interview, contact Yvette Orozco at (480) 472-0406, or e-mail her at ycorozco@mpsaz.org.
  • From mid-June through mid-October interviews are scheduled on an "as needed" basis with Human Resources contacting the applicants to be interviewed.

Counseling and Psychologist screening interviews are done by a committee process, normally during the month of May. Qualified candidates are notified of the committee's recommendation to interview and the date(s) for the interviews.

Administrative screenings vary with each vacancy and qualified candidates are notified by mail and or phone throughout the process.

Application Process for Substitute Teachers  Top

Mesa Public Schools accepts applications for substitute employment throughout the year. Listed below are the items that are required for the application process.

  • A signed "Notice to Consumer and Authorization" form.
  • An unofficial copy of your transcript(s) of university credits.
  • A copy of your current, valid Arizona teaching certificate or substitute teaching certificate.

To apply for a Arizona certification, you may contact the Arizona Department of Education, at (602) 542-4367, located at 1535 West Jefferson Street, Phoenix, Arizona 85007, or visit the Arizona Department of Education website at www.ade.state.az.us.

You may deliver, fax, or mail the Substitute Teacher application to Substitute Services. The fax number is (480) 472-0440. If you are considered for hire, Substitute Services will contact you. You will be requried to complete an orientation and additional paperwork for your personnel and payroll files.

Application Process for Classified Positions Top

Classified Personnel includes all support staff in positions that do not require a teaching certificate to perform their job. These positions include clerical, maintenance, bus drivers, and many other areas of employment.

  • You must submit a completed application packet to the Classified Human Resources office by 5:00 p.m. on the day the position posting closes. A Position Interest form is required for each position you are applying for.
  • The application packet is available for download, and can be printed and completed.
  • Applications are retained for two years; if you have submitted an application within the last two years, you will only need to submit a Position Interest form and complete any testing required.
  • You may deliver, fax or mail the application to the Classified Human Resources office. Our fax number is (480) 472-0432. Please call us at (480) 472-0423 to confirm your fax was received in its entirety.
  • Applications received after 5:00 pm on the day the position posting closes will not be considered.
  • The entire application packet must be completed. A resume may be submitted along with the completed application, however the employment history section of the application must by completely filled out. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Office positions may require clerical testing. Testing is conducted in the Classified
    Human Resources office at the time the application is submitted (testing is available from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. M-F). Testing takes approximately 35 minutes and includes typing, spelling, general computer skills (Windows operating system), and math.
  • A Data Entry test may also be required as appropriate for a position.
  • Technical positions often require testing that is specific to the position.
  • Current employees do not need to complete the entire application packet. A completed Position Interest form is the only form required for a current employee to be considered. The completed Position Interest form must be received in the Classified Human Resources Department office by 5:00 p.m. on the day the position posting closes.

FINGERPRINTING REQUIREMENTS Top

All Classified employees hired by Mesa Public Schools are fingerprinted as a condition of employment. The cost of that process is automatically deducted from the employee's paycheck. All employees are considered conditional employees until the fingerprint check is finalized.
