Greetings from Room 21! Thanks for stopping by...in this room you will find lots of fun and lots of learning.
My name is David Verill, and I am your child’s kindergarten teacher. I've actively taught for 21 years, but have worked with young children for 22 years. I’ve taught kindergarten for the majority of my career, with a year of first grade in the mix. The growth kiddos make during kindergarten is amazing to see, and I’m fortunate to be a part of that.
I graduated from Northern Arizona University (go Jacks!!) with a major in Elementary Education, and a minor in Early Childhood. I team-taught a kindergarten/first grade class for one year at a private school in California, then taught with the Head Start Program in Mesa for six years. I've taught with Mesa Public Schools for 16 years, and this is my first year at Hughes.
Along the way, I have earned several endorsements to my teaching certificate, including English as a Second Language and an Early Childhood endorsement. I presented at Purdue University (Lafayette, Indiana) at an education symposium designed for college students about to enter the education field. This was a highlight of my career because I never imagined I'd be on the "other side" of a college class.
I moved to Arizona from California with my family in 1989. Both of my brothers live in Arizona, and my sister lives in the mid-west. I live with five orange tabbies, and a mouthy Siamese, who pretty much rules the house.
Despite the hot-hot-hot summers, Arizona is home. Where else can you get the amazing winter weather that we do?
