Biography

I am currently the Kindergarten and First Grade Autism Teacher here at Hughes Elementary School.  Each year brings new discoveries and achievements in educating our students.  It is my privilege to be able to work with your children.  I have been teaching in the Autism Program for four years.  I have experience working with children with Autism for 7 years.  I can truly say that I have found my passion, this is where my heart is!

I began my teaching career in 1998 when I graduated from Ottawa University with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education.  I decided a year after being in the classroom that I wanted to stay home to raise my four children.  When I returned to Education, I was an Instructional Assistant in a Special Education Preschool.  I was also a Substitute Teacher working in an Autism classroom.  As a second income, I provided Habilitation and Respite to children with Autism. I teach children with Autism, but they are also teaching me, everyday I am learning from them.

I believe that each child brings their own unique talents, personalities, and experiences into the classroom.  I will be working very hard to establish our classroom as a happy, challenging, comfortable and safe environment where we can all do our personal best.  I look forward to learning with your child and sharing curriculum with them.  In order to have success in the classroom, we focus on consistency, sticking to a schedule, reinforcing positive behaviors and creating a classroom safety zone.

In my "free-time", I enjoy spending time with my four children, two girls and two boys.  I like to support them in their activities, which include gymnastics and baseball.  They definitely keep me busy when I am not in the classroom.

I believe that to give your child the best opportunity for success in their education, Communication is the key!  Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.  I am eager and happy to be teaching your children.

Together we can make this a great experience for your child!
