This school year (2020-2021) will be my 28th year of teaching with approximately 11 years of that time spent in the Mesa District. Teaching has always been a passion of mine. I focus on building trust with my students as well as their family. I make it a top priority to help students increase their academic skills by falling in love with learning. I am a life long learner and I want all students to also become life long learners.
I hope you enjoy reading about my educational background, teaching experiences and family as I have updated and added some new information.
My teaching journey began in 1986 after graduating from College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Eduction and Elementary Education in Owensboro, KY. My teaching degrees are: Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), Emotional and Behavorial Disabilities (EBD)and Elementary Education K-6.
I earned my Masters of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 2006 at Winona State University in Winona, MN. Since Hughes is an AVID school, Winona State University is the University I chose to represent in my classroom.
I have taught in public schools in Kentucky, Wisconsin, Minnesota and now Arizona for a total of twenty-eight years. This is my eleventh year teaching at a Mesa Public School. The past 8 years I have been a special ed. resource teacher at Hughes Elementary; the previous 3 years I was the Intermediate EDP teacher at Lindbergh Elementary.
I have four fantastic children. My youngest (fourth child) is Isaac and he is twenty years old and is making a path for himself as a trainer for part of the kitchen at Texas Road House. My next son (third child), Luke, is twenty-two years old and currently works for a pest control company. This job is only an interim job because his passion is law enforcement so he hopes to become a police officer sometime in the future. He is also engaged and will be getting married in November of 2020. My second child is Anna. She graduated with a pre-med degree from ASU in May of 2018 and is currently working for Valley Perinatal Services. She is also married and has a beautiful son who will be four in September of 2020. She also will be giving birth to her second son sometime in the middle of October of 2020. Anna's husband is in the carpet cleaning business. My first child (Liz) studied psychology and statistics from ASU and graduated in May of 2015. Liz also married a wonderful man in May of 2014 and had her first baby shortly after graduating from ASU in 2015. She currently has two boys ages 5 and 2 1/2 with another boy on the way in July of 2020. Her husband graduated from ASU in May of 2017 from the engineering department at ASU. He currently works at Grand Canyon University.
My husband and I have been married for 30 years and we enjoy spending time with our grandsons and children. We love to swim and walk. We also have three dogs: Snow is our yellow lab, Lucky is a mix and Dora is our Chihuahua. I hope you enjoyed reading about my family as I enjoy learning about your family.
Please call, text or email me with any concerns or items you would like to discuss with me. I look forward to encouraging your child(ren) and advancing their learning in the areas that are needed!
