Laura Lyman Wins Foundation Award

Mrs. Lyman, a fourth grade teacher at Ishikawa, is a master at differentiated instruction. She uses a wide variety of instructional techniques and learning activities to engage her students' interest and active involvement in their learning. Her students consistently scored at a very high level on the AIMS test. Her warmth, generosity, and professionalism have earned Laura the respect and admiration of her students and colleagues.  Lowell Milken presented Mrs. Lyman the Milken National Educators Award and a check for $25,000 at a special school assembly, also attended by the State Superintendent of Public Education and the Superintendent of Mesa Public Schools.

National Title I Distinguished School Runner-up

Competing against 55 schools across the state as a Title I Distinguished School, Ishikawa was one of six elementary schools to earn a site visit from the Arizona Department of Education. Ishikawa was named as the national first runner-up for the state of Arizona for continually raising student achievement.
