All students at Ishikawa attend music class once each week. In their music class, students improve and enhance their musical understanding through instuctional activities integrating song, movement, speech, and performance on classrooom instruments.
At Ishikawa, orchestra is an elective class offered to fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. Students may choose to learn to play the violin, viola, cello, or bass violin.Orchestra classes meet twice each week for 30 minutes. Students are expected to maintain a practice schedule at home, and are also responsible for work and/or assignments missed in their class during orchestra rehearsals.
Students in fifth and sixth grade have the opportunity to to learn to play different band instruments, including flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, french horn, baritone, tuba, and percussion. Students in band meet two times per week for instruction on their instruments. Band students are expected to practice at home on a regular basis, and are also responsible for classwork missed as a result of band rehearsals.
