My name is Heather Horne and I am so excited to teach sixth grade this year! I am a Phoenix native and I graduated from Brigham Young University with an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science. After staying home with my three kiddos & working on a master’s degree in kinesiology, my passion for education and learning led me here. I love every minute of it! I have spent time on Ishikawa's campus as a parent, a volunteer, a PTO member, an aide in the reading lab, a long term substitute in sixth grade and a fifth grade teacher.
My family includes my husband Tyler, 9th grade son Zach, 7th grade son Caden, 5th grade daughter Hadley & our King Charles Cavalier "Lady" Dog. We have lived in Mesa for almost 6 years and have family in north Phoenix and Scottsdale that we enjoy spending time with. My favorite things to do include anything at the beach or the lake, watching my kid's basketball games and music performances, and baking something delicious in my kitchen. We love living in Mesa and thoroughly enjoy the community here. It is definitely the community and families at Ishikawa that make this a special place to be!
In sixth grade, students will have "switches" or rotate classes. They will see different teachers for math, reading, science and social studies. This year I will be teaching math and science switches (science is my favorite). I will also be teaching writing (my other favorite) and grammar in homeroom. Students will take their backpacks with them from switch to switch and will need to have all of their supplies with them. Please take a look at the supply list to the left of this page for more information.
Sixth grade is a big year! Together we will work hard to finish out elementary school and prepare for Jr. High. There will be plenty of opportunities to lead out on campus and have some fun while we are at it too...what a great time in life for these sixth graders! I'm genuinely excited to be part of it!
