MANAGEMENT
TEACHING AND LEARNING: individual, partners, small group, whole group, visual, auditory, tactical
HOMEWORK
It is recommended that students do up to thirty minutes every evening.
- Basic skills homework.
- Study spelling words and math facts daily.
- Read assigned reading for A.R. or R.I.S.E. 15 minutes daily.
- Complete all unfinished work.
DISCIPLINE
- Warning is given.
- If problems continue the student is given a logical consequence.
- If there is a serious concern or a behavior that continues to repeat itself we will contact you.
GRADING
- Reading, mathematics, and communication grades are based on tests and teacher observation
- Addition and subtraction facts are graded using a 4 minute timing of 60 problems with 80% or better as passing.
- Effort grades are based on teacher observation
CURRICULUM
- READING:
Phonics, literature based story and writings, story comprehension
questions, reading skills, story comprehension test, extended
activities, AR(Accelerated Reading Program)
- MATH:
Timed addition and subtraction facts,
numbers, patterns, estimating, graphing, problem solving,
calculators, place value, odd and even, logical reasoning, skip
counting, 1,2, and 3 digit addition and subtraction with and
without regrouping, money, time, geometry, fractions, measurement
(standard and metric).
- SPELLING:
15 to 20 words
- COMPOSITION:
Personal narrative, imaginative story,
communication, report writing, and poetry. All composition include
the following steps: pre write, write, revise and edit,
publish.
- SCIENCE TOPICS:
Breath, Blood & Guts, Weather Watchers, Solid, Liquid & Gas, Life Cycles
