Biography

I spent the first part of my life living in Ohio. I moved to Arizona and met my husband while attending Mesa High School here in the Mesa Public School System. Shortly after high school we got married. We have 7 children and as a family we enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities including camping, biking, running, and most every sport. I personally have participated in 2 half marathons.

I received my Bachelors Degree in Special Education and my Masters in Early Childhood Special Education from Arizona State University. I also have a reading endorsement and am certified in Structured English Immersion (SEI). Additionally, I am able to utilize American Sign Language (ASL) which comes in handy when communicating with and teaching those with communication barriers.

I have worked in the special education field with Mesa Public Schools for many years. I spent my first years at Jordan Elementary School, first as a primary Autistic teacher then as an Autistic Kindergarten teacher and finally I landed in preschool. I have enjoyed each of the classes and programs I have worked in over the years.

I am excited to be here at Johnson Elementary and am currently teaching in a sensory integrated program. Our day is full from start to finish. We follow a very structured and consistent classroom schedule which provides our students the opportunity to learn vital academic and social skills for the future. We focus on developing appropriate relationships with our peers, academic skills appropriate for preschool students, attending to tasks, as well as developing our communication skills to express our wants, needs, and feelings. Our overall goal of integrating our students into cross-categorical classrooms helps them to develop appropriate and necessary skills as they learn to interact with their typical peers.
