Many students come to school ill and others get sick after they arrive. Some return to school too soon after an illness and need to go home again. It is often hard to tell if a child is really sick enough to stay home. Here are some general guidelines:
If your child has a temperature of 100 degrees or greater, he/she must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school.
If your child has vomited the night before or that morning, he/she must stay home.
If your child has diarrhea, he/she must stay home.
If your child has head lice, he/she must stay home until all nits are gone. When returning to school, your child must be checked in the Nurse's office first, before going to class. You are required to stay with them until they are cleared for school.
If your child develops a rash, please check with your doctor or bring your child to the nurse's office to be sure he/she doesn't have a contagious rash illness.
If your child has sustained an injury at home, please feel free to contact the nurse for support for your child at school.
If your child is ill, please call the school office to let us know that your child will not be in school. Please make sure that your child eats something for breakfast each day. Many children with stomach aches simply did not eat breakfast. Kerr's cafeteria serves breakfast each day from 7:20 to 7:45 a.m.
To assure that your child has enough water, especially during the hotter months, children are encouraged to bring a bottle of water to school. Please no soda or juice.
It is VERY important that you list someone you can trust as an emergency contact should the health office need to contact someone if you are not available (or in the case of an emergency). Please make sure this information is filed in the nurse's office.
