Welcome to another exciting year
in First Grade in ROOM 7
My passion for teaching first began as a young child. At 7 years old I would gather my brothers and sisters together and “play school”. Of course, I was the teacher! From that time on I always knew that being a teacher was a desire of my heart.
I have been an educator for over 27 years, teaching pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. I love to use wonderful literature, poems, music, and motivating activities to excite my students to read and write. We'll sing songs to learn concepts, develop vocabulary and language, and even have fun! Math will include hands-on lessons, strategies, and the importance of grasping concepts centered on SMART TEN.
In Room 7 we'll have many creative projects as a way to enrich learning and expand our ideas, imagination, and abilities. Science Units focus on Rocks-Soil-Water, Habitats, Weather, and understanding Solids and Liquids. A couple years ago I learned some basic Sign Language and enjoy teaching it to my First Graders. I am always amazed how fast they learn it! We'll learn to sign the pledge, some basic communication, and songs.
I received my BA in Elementary Education from ASU in 1988, and completed my Masters through NAU in 1995. In 1997 I was recognized as Mesa Tribune Teacher of the Year, then Educator of the Month for Mesa Public Schools in 2007. Currently, I am in my 16th year at Las Sendas, and previously taught at Salk and Falcon Hill. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to work with a great staff and supportive families. Teaching at Las Sendas is a daily joy.
I have lived in Mesa for over 35 years. I am married to Jeff Rogers, and have two grown children and six grandchildren. My daughter, Kristen, and her family live in Mesa, and my son, Rich, lives in Washington State.
In my spare time I enjoy photography, digital arts, and writing.
Anytime, I love a walk on the beach,
quiet time near a babbling brook, a relaxing massage,
and spending time with my children,
grandchildren, and friends.
I love dark chocolate, , and most shades of green , especially teal !
They're growing up!
