"So it is with children who learn to read fluently and well: They begin to take flight into whole new worlds as effortlessly as young birds take to the sky." —William James
What Does Reading Lab Do?
The primary function of reading lab is to provide tier 3 intervention for students identified as ‘at risk’ for reading difficulties by the DIBELS Benchmark assessment. Reading lab places students based on their DIBELS scores, Quick Phonics Screeners, and SRA placement tests. Once students are placed in the reading lab, we use 95% group Phonics Lessons Library, 95% group Chip Kits, and START Phonics with Kindergarten - 6th grade. Corrective Reading levels B1 & B2 is used with some 4th - 6th grade students.
How Does Reading Lab Assess Students?
Reading lab staff progress monitors bi-monthly with DIBELS Next progress monitoring materials. At the end of every lesson, students do individual reading checkouts from the reading program. The assessments are criterion referenced, which means they assess each student’s achievement
