I earned a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a specialization in Physical Education from Arizona State University. I am the first and only Mesa P.E. teacher to achieve National Board Certification, and have also earned my English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement.
I am now enjoying my 16th year teaching physical education here at Lindbergh Elementary where I am also the Active & Healthy School Program Coordinator, and Wellness Captain.
A focus of mine at Lindbergh has become developing our school’s “Active & Healthy School Program.” When I helped create this program in 2005, our goal was to improve physical activity and healthy eating habits in our school community (students, teachers, and families) through education and providing opportunity. Through my involvement in this program, Lindbergh was recognized as a President’s Council Demonstration Center.
My general philosophy for Physical Education is not that students master every skill; instead I teach students how to incorporate physical activity that they enjoy into their daily lives. I am currently working to extend information and opportunities to our school community to encourage healthy lifestyles:
Outside of teaching, I personally lead a very active lifestyle. I enjoy spending my free time with my wife and daughter, playing volleyball, swimming, working out, hiking, jogging, and basically doing whatever active things we can think of!
