Biography

I am an Arizona native, having grown up in Phoenix and Peoria.  I moved to the east valley to attend Arizona State University where I earned a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a specialization in Physical Education.  Since becoming a teacher I have continued my education by earning an English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement.  I have also embarked on the rigorous process of earning the National Board Certification, which I will hopefully achieve in November 2010.

I am now enjoying my 8th year teaching physical education here at Lindbergh Elementary.  I began as a district-based P.E. teacher where I taught at Lindbergh, Madison, and Robson.  Mesa has such an amazing Physical Education program that it is great to teach at any of its schools, though I have to say that Lindbergh has been my favorite.  In 2004, I was excited to become Lindbergh’s school-based P.E. teacher, where I am also the Active & Healthy School Program Coordinator, Wellness Captain, and the Computer Liaison.

My biggest focus at Lindbergh has become developing our school’s “Active & Healthy School Program.” When I helped create this program in 2005, our goal was to improve physical activity and healthy eating habits in our school community (students, teachers, and families) through education and providing opportunity.  Through my involvement in this program, Lindbergh was recognized as a President’s Council Demonstration Center.

My general philosophy for Physical Education is not that students master every skill; instead I teach students how to incorporate physical activity that they enjoy into their daily lives. I am currently working to extend information and opportunities to our school community to encourage healthy lifestyles:

Active Families Program

Active & Healthy Newsletter

Active Families Day

Active & Healthy Club

Outside of teaching, I personally lead a very active lifestyle.  I enjoy spending my free time with my wife and daughter, playing volleyball, riding bikes, hiking, jogging, and basically doing whatever active things we can think of!
