Learning Objectives for February 2018

ELA Topic: Compare and Contrast Do: comparing and contrasting fiction with nonfiction, comparing and contrasting two items within an expository text. Interpreting information from external text in nonfiction text for a specific purpose. Locating signal words that indicate comparison/contrast. (i.e., similarly, on the other hand, however, yet, in spite of) Writing Topic: Expository Essay Do: recording and organizing information, observations or questions on a topic of student interest from one or two sources (experiment, textbook, guest speaker, video, Internet, interview, podcasts, etc.) for report/research purposes. Producing two or more paragraphs with an identifiable main idea and supporting details that reflect the audience and purpose in a variety of genres. Math Topic: Metric Measurement Do: estimate and measure linear, mass, and volume in metric measurement, and onvert customary units. Social Studies Topic: Geography Do: Use different types of maps to solve problems (i.e., road maps –distance, resource maps-products, historical maps- boundaries, thematic map- climates). Science Topic: Variables Do: understand, identify, and create variables in multitude of scientific experiments.
