Students are expected to dress properly in standard school attire. It is the parents responsibility to ensure compliance with the Dress Code. All students who attend Longfellow must dress in accordance with this Dress Code.

  1. STANDARD SCHOOL CLOTHING: All students will wear standard school clothing. The clothing may not be altered in a manner that includes, but is not limited to, slits and shredded hems. Standard school clothing is: Boys: Solid colored shirts that are white, red, or navy blue  with collars.This may include polo-style shirts and dress shirts. Slacks or shorts that are solid navy blue or black. Shorts must be no more than four inches above the knee. No blue jeans or blue jean shorts may be worn. Black jeans are permitted. Girls: Solid colored shirts that are white, red, or navy blue  with collars. This may include polo-style shirts and blouses. Slacks, shorts, skorts, skirts, jumpers or rompers that are solid navy blue or black and are no more than four inches above the knee. No blue jeans or blue jean shorts may be worn. Black jeans are permitted.   
  2. OVERSIZED CLOTHING: Baggy or oversized clothing is not acceptable and is prohibited. Clothing may not be more than one size larger than the student's clothing size. No sagging of clothing will be allowed.
  3. BELTS: Belts must be black or brown and may not be more than size larger than the student's waist.
  4. SHIRTS AND BLOUSES:  Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
  5. UNDERGARMENTS: No undergarments may show. Girls may wear black or navy shorts under their skirts, if the shorts do not show.
  6. HATS: No hats of any type may be worn on campus.
  7. SHOES: For safety reasons, students are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes that cover the toes. Sandals may be worn but must have a strap around the back to hold them on. Thongs, slippers or bare feet are not acceptable.
  8. SOCKS: Solid-color socks of any length may be worn. Solid-color, full-length or knee high tights are also acceptable for girls.
  9. FAILURE TO COMPLY: Students not dressed in accordance with the Dress Code will be offered the use of standard school clothing for the day and the school will contact the parents. Students who repeatedly fail to dress in accordance with the Dress Code may be subject to disciplinary action as set forth in the district's Information and Guidelines and Longfellow Elementary School's Student Handbook. Students who refuse to dress in accordance with the Dress Code may be assigned to another school in the district, in accordance with the administrative placement procedures set forth in the Governing Board Policies and Regulations manual.
  10. ECONOMIC HARDSHIP: Longfellow has a parent liaison to work with parents in obtaining uniforms. The liaison will find reasonably priced uniforms or offer opportunities for parents to earn uniforms.
  11. ACCESSORIES: Buttons, jewelry, and other accessories that contain vulgar, lewd, obscene, or plainly offensive messages, or that may lead to substantial interference with school activities, including accessories that advocate the use of alcohol, tobacco or drugs, and accessories that make reference to or identify gangs are not allowed. 
  12. MAKE-UP: Make-up is not permitted to be worn.
  13. SPIRIT DAYS: Friday is Spirit Day at Longfellow. Students may wear any Longfellow shirt. This may include, band or orchestra shirts, science camp shirts, Longfellow sport jerseys, and pom or cheer shirts.
