Ms. Erica Kurz
Hello! I am thrilled for my fifth year at Longfellow Elementary and in Mesa Public Schools; it will be my 10th year teaching overall. I am so excited be able to "loop up" with most of my remote learning students from last year. It will be so terrific to teach them in person this year and see their continued growth and progress. My teaching adventure began in Tucson, Arizona.
I was born and raised in Tucson. Both my undergraduate and graduate work was completed at the University of Arizona (BEAR DOWN!) and I taught for five years in Tucson Unified School District. All of those years, I taught in a 7th grade math classroom. I truly loved every minute of it. However, after my move to a new city, I wanted a new grade level and experiences the sharpen my ever-evolving teaching capabilities.
As a 3rd Grade Teacher, I love integrating subject areas so my students can easily see the connections learning has in all areas of life and continuing to expand and strengthen a love of learning in students. Longfellow is an incredible community I am lucky to be a part of. I am so honored to be a piece of the amazing experiences our students create here. I also have such respect for our Longfellow Community for emphasizing the entire student; we focus on academics, but also students' social and emotional learning. We strive to help them be organized, driven, and community oriented.
When I'm not in school, I love traveling, reading, hiking, paddle boarding, and playing with my dog Meco. I live with Meco and my boyfriend Zack.
To say I love my job, is an understatement. I get to meet amazing young humans, learn something everyday, inspire learning in others, and create change. I cannot think of anything I would rather do with my life than teach. I love making connections with students, their families and communities, and I love being able to show my students the impacts they can have on the world.
I look forward to getting to know each and every student and their support system. I am a huge believer that communication is key to success, so please, do not ever hesitate to reach out with questions, concerns, or ideas! Learning, like life, is an adventure; I cannot wait to start our many adventures together!
Many thanks from a lifelong learner,
