Not only am I a teacher at MacArthur, I was once a student here as well. During my 12 year career, I have taught both 6th grade and elementary Gifted and Talented resource. Regardless of my teaching position, my philosophy towards education remains the same. All students must be taught how to think. The ability to generate possibilities, evaluate ideas, and problem solve are the only truly universal skills. Whether a student seeks to be a firefighter, teacher, engineer, social worker, construction worker, architect, entrepreneur, or stay-at-home parent, they will routinely use and employ these skills. It is only through authentic exploration and facing complex problem that these skills can be adequately practiced and instilled. In my classroom, I seek to present students with these types of challenges that require student to use, apply, and manipulate the information and skills they have previously learned.
