Hello,
Welcome back from summer break!  I hope you had a wonderful summer!

I am looking forward to another fantastic year here at MacArthur Elementary!  I am the Special Education Resource Room Teacher.  I have twenty years of teaching experience.  I started my career in Las Cruces, NM, where I taught K-6th Resource Room.  I then taught at Bright Beginnings Charter School in Chandler, also K-6th Resource Room.  I taught 6th-8th Resource Room for five years at Imagine Schools in Chandler.  This is my second year here at MacArthur.

I am looking forward to working with your child and helping him/her to achieve at his/her fullest potential.  I have reviewed their IEPs, discussed their academic history with his/her teachers and am prepared for the upcoming year.

I know the parent-teacher relationship is vital to your child’s success in school.  By working together, we can help your child have a very fulfilling learning experience.  I am located in room C2.  I can be reached during school hours at 472-7767.  You may leave a message and I will return your call as soon as possible.  I can also be reached via email: mrcastillo@mpsaz.org

I teach students ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade.  My teaching is based on the premise that ALL students can learn!  For that reason, my students receive instruction and support both in the Resource Room and in the general education classroom.  Your child will receive an educational program that encompasses the goals and instructional strategies outlined in their Individualized Education Program (IEP).  I will work very hard to help your child complete all of his/her goals and objectives.  If you have any questions regarding your child’s academic performance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I use a money system in my classroom.  It is very effective in motivating the students and in managing their behaviors.  It also teaches students to manage, exchange, and convert money.  Students earn money by completing assignments, working hard and being kind to others.  Certain privileges, such as sitting in a teacher chair, costs money.  Once the students have saved ten dollars, they may go to the prize box.  I would greatly appreciate any donations that you may be able to give.  Please do not pay more than $1 for any one item.  Garage sale, gently used, and dollar store items are fine.  I usually get items from Target, Walgreens or Fry’s when they have dollar sales.  Thank you SO much!

Once again, I would like to welcome you back from summer vacation.  I feel this school year is going to be a great experience for your child!  I would like to thank you in advance for your support and commitment throughout the year.

Best Wishes,
