1. What can I do to help my student be successful at Madsion?
ATTENDANCE: One of the most important ways to support your son/daughter is to encourage their daily attendance and make sure your student arrives on time. This is the number one concern among teachers and prospective employers. A student needs to be in class every day unless there is an illness or family emergency.
HOMEWORK: Homework is to be expected in every academic class. The amount of homework and time spent completeing assignments varies. For specific questions concerning homework, please call or see your son/daughter's individual teacher.
STUDY: Good grades are earned by developing good study habits and time management. Parents can provide a quiet place and schedule time for their son/daughter to study. The use of the student handbook provides an organizational tool for students to improve their study habits.

3. How do I report my child's absence if he/she is not going to be in school?
Please call lthe Madison office at 472-8800 to report your child's absence. Voice messaging is available for your convenience 24 hours a day. When reporting an absence, please give the following information: Your child's name, room number, and the reason for the absence (ill, out of town, etc.). Please request homework at this time (see #4 for homework request procedures). Mesa Schools require that all students must be accounted for on a daily basis. Your child's safety is extremely important to us. If we have not received a call or note from you about your child's absence, we are required to contact you by phone at home or work to verify your child's absence. Your phone call is very important to us. Thank you in advance for reporting your child's absences.

4. How can I request homework if my son/daughter is absent?
Homework requests are done through the office (472-8800). NOTE: Normally, teachers are given 24 hours to gather missed homework assignments. Work gathered on the same day as the request is made is done so by the graciousness of the teacher. We encourage parents to make homework requests at the same time they report their child's absence. Any requests that are received after mid morning will probably not be gathered, due to the lateness of the request (after 11:00). Prolonged illnesses should be reported to the nurse for her assistance with homework. To speak with the health office, call 472-8860.

6. Are there any dress standards we need to be aware of?
Shoes should be worn at all times during the normal course of the school day. Student participation will be limited in physical education classes if they are wearing sandals, flip-flops, or have bare feet. Halter tops, mid-body shirts, or any clothing attire advertising products that are not consumed by children are not allowed. Students' pants need to be belted or otherwise tight enough for the pant waistband to stay at the child's waist (not sliding lower than top of hip bones) and not showing any undergarments. Students may not wear chains that hang from their clothing as these represent a safety hazard at school. Hats may not be worn in the building/classroom and must be facing forward when worn outside.
