Sports Illustrated Names Mountain View as Top Arizona High School

Sports Illustrated has named Mountain View High School as Arizona's top high school.
In addition to the school's many academic achievements, including placing fourth nationally in Academic Decathlon, Mountain View won several state championships in 2006-07. The school participates in 21 Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) programs and competed in state championship in 10 categories, earning a championship or becoming a state runner-up.
State championships and awards include:
• Girls swimming individual state champions: Aleesha Miller, Emily Christiansen, Jordyn Gosney and Jessalyn Brown
• Spiritline state champions
• Wrestling individual state champions: Tony Covert and Jadon Johnson
• Boys basketball state champions
• Track and field individual state champion: Ron Taylor
• Arizona Interscholastic Association Scholar Athletes Award for 3.5 or high grade point average among student athletes
• H.A. Hendrickson Award - AIA's top award for top interscholastic programs in 5A competition
• Phoenix Suns Spirit of Cotton Award - Gary Ernst, boys basketball coach
