The Extended
Learning Program is a pull-out program for gifted students in
grades 3-6. Students spend the entire school day in ELP on the
day their grade level attends. Students may be referred by an
administrator, teacher, parent, or themselves. Referred students
are then administered the Cognitive Abilities Test and must
score in the 97-99 percentiles in two of the three areas which
are verbal, quantitative, and non-verbal. Students may also
qualify for the pullout program who score at the 97th percentile
on the Cognitive Abilities Test in one area and have a School
Ability Index of 138 on the Otis Lennon in one area.
ELP is a
program designed for the top 3% in the areas of Verbal Quantitative
and Non-Verbal. The curriculum addresses seven strands of higher
level thinking. The seven strands are Critical Thinking Skills,
Literary Analysis, Communication Skills, Creative Problem Solving,
Research Problem Solving, Mathematical Reasoning and Personal
Development. Our classes follow the philosophy of a hands-on
approach. Our learning adventures explore problem solving past,
present, and future – with site experiences to enhance
our studies.
