Homework rationale:
Homework is important as it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience in school. Homework is assigned because it is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits.
When homework is assigned:
Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. Homework should take no longer than 20 minutes each night. In addition to the assigned homework, it is suggested that students read a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes per night.
*Mesa Public School's homework policy calls for 40 minutes of homework a night.
Students' homework responsibilities:
Students are expected to show effort and complete their homework. Homework is expected to be neat. Students are also expected to show their work on math problems so that their work can be analyzed for errors and so that skills can be retaught and reinforced when needed. Assignments are expected to be turned in on time, but should still be turned in even if they are late.
If students do not complete homework:
Students may be asked to stay in during recess to complete their homework. If students choose not to make up missed assignments, they will receive a 0 for that assignment. Missed and/or incomplete assignments will negatively affect a student's overall grade in the related subject.
