Guten Tag! ¡Buenos dìas!
My name is Christiane Markwell and I am the World Language Department Chair at Mesa High School. I teach German (all levels) and Spanish here at Mesa High School. I have been working at Mesa High School since 1996 and became the World Language department chair in 2001. I received my Bachelor's degree summa cum laude in Secondary Education from ASU in 1996 and my Master's degree in Secondary Education from NAU in 2000. I greatly enjoy teaching and working with our high school students and love sharing my passion for language learning with them. I also have been teaching German dual enrollment courses through Rio Salado College and Mesa Community College since 2001 and I teach on-line courses for the college as well. In addition, I develop all of the German courses for Rio Salado College.
I have also been teaching Spanish for Mesa Distance Learning (MDLP) since the fall of 2016.
In previous years I was the instructor for Conversational Spanish for district employees through Mesa Public School's Professional Development program from 1997 - 2013.
My love for languages developed very early in my life. Growing up in Germany, I had the opportunity to study several world languages, including Latin and French. I also attended the University of Tübingen, Germany, before moving to Arizona in 1991. It is here where I was able to study Spanish as well.
In my free time I enjoy reading books in different languages and traveling to beautiful places around the world such as Germany, Canada, Mexico or Spain. I always look forward to learning new things about different cultures and to share my experiences and insights with my students. I believe it is essential for all of our students to become familiar with other languages and cultures to be well prepared for their future in this ever-changing world.
