EXPECTATIONS: SINCERE DESIRE TO IMPROVE YOUR FITNESS AND HEALTH; COMMITTED TO CHANGING THE SHAPE OF YOUR BODY IN A POSITIVE WAY (INCREASE MUSCLE MASS, DECREASE BODY FAT); ADHERE TO THE WORKOUT PROGRAMS AS THEY HAVE BEEN DESIGNED; RELENTLESS PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE (MEDIOCRITY IS NOT ACCEPTED)

ATTENDANCE: THIS IS A PERFORMANCE CLASS SO YOUR ATTENDANCE IS ESSENTIAL TO MAXIMIZE YOUR FITNESS IMPROVEMENTS.  THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 80 WORKOUTS DURING THE SEMESTER.  MISSED WORKOUTS ADVERSELY AFFECT YOUR SEMESTER GRADE.  MAKEUP WORKOUTS ARE PERMISSIBLE ONLY FOR EXCUSED ABSNCES.  INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKEUP WORKOUTS ARE IN THE "MAKEUP WORKOUT" FOLDER OF MY TEACHER PORTAL.

TARDY & SWEEP POLICY: YOU ARE EXPECTED TO BE DRESSED OUT AND IN THE FITNESS CENTER NO LATER THAN 5 MINUTES AFTER THE LATE BELL.  IF YOU EXCEED THIS TIME FRAME AND DO NOT HAVE A VALID PASS, YOU ARE CONSIDERED LATE AND SHOULD IMMEDIATELY PROCEED TO SWEEP.

DAILY ATTIRE: TO WORKOUT, YOU NEED TO BE PROPERLY DRESSED OUT.  THIS INCLUDES: 1) T-SHIRT, 2) ATHLETIC SHORTS (WHICH MUST BE WORN AROUND THE WAIST), 3) ATHLETIC SOCKS, AND 4) ATHLETIC SNEAKERS (WHICH MUST BE FIRMLY TIED TO YOUR FEET).  ALL CLOTHING MUST BE CONSISTENT WITH THE MPS AND MESA HIGH DRESS CODES.

FEMALE STUDENTS SHOULD WEAR SPANDEX OR BIKER SHORTS UNDERNEATH WORKOUT SHORTS AS WELL AS A HIGH NECK T-SHIRT.

FOR SAFETY REASONS, JEWELRY WORN ON FINGERS, HANDS, AND WRISTS IS PROHIBITED, AS IS JEWELRY THAT HANGS FROM THE EARS, FACE, AND NECK.

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR: YOU MUST ADHERE TO THE WORKOUT PROGRAMS THAT ARE DESIGNED FOR YOU.  IT IS ALSO EXPECTED THAT YOU WILL PUT FORTH YOUR BEST EFFORT TO COMPLETE EACH WORKOUT, RESPECT OTHER STUDENTS' RIGHTS TO LISTEN AND LEARN, AND BE COURTEOUS TO BOTH FELLOW STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.

ONCE CLASS BEGINS (5 MINUTES AFTER THE LATE BELL), YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE FITNESS CENTER WITHOUT A VALID RELEASE PASS.  SO MAKE SURE YOU USE THE RESTROOM BEFORE YOU ENTER THE FITNESS CENTER.  MOREOVER, BRING WATER TO DRINK DURING THE WORKOUT--JUST MAKE SURE THE CONTAINER HAS A SEALABLE TOP SO IT WILL NOT SPILL IF KNOCKED OVER.  ELECTRONIC DEVICES (E.G., CELL PHONES, I PODS) ARE NOT PERMITTED IN CLASS, WHICH IS A SCHOOL WIDE RULE.  IF YOU DO NOT HAVE APPROPRIATE WORKOUT CLOTHES, YOU WILL BE SENT TO SWEEP.

DISCIPLINE PLAN: IF YOU ARE TRULY COMMITTED TO IMPROVING YOUR FITNESS AND HEALTH AND CHANGING THE SHAPE OF YOUR BODY, WE WILL NOT HAVE TO WASTE VALUABLE (AND LIMITED) WORKOUT TIME ON DISCIPLINE MATTERS.

HOWEVER, SHOULD YOU DECIDE TO BEHAVE INAPPROPRIATELY SEVERAL DISCIPLINE MEASURES ARE POSSIBLE INCLUDING (BUT NOT LIMITED TO): VERBAL WARNING, LOSS OF CLASS PRIVILEGES, CLEANING THE FITNESS CENTER, SUPERVISED STUDY, PARENT/GUARDIAN CONTACT (PHONE OR CONFERENCE), OR REFERRAL TO AN ADMINISTRATOR.  THE PRECEDING MEASURES ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE MPS GUIDELINES PUBLISHED IN THE STUDENT HANDBOOK.

MAKEUP WORKOUTS: INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING A MAKEUP WORKOUT CAN BE FOUND IN MY TEACHER PORTAL.  PRINT THE INSTRUCTIONS AND CHART AND BRING THE RECORDING CHART EACH TIME YOU DO A MAKEUP WORKOUT.  KEEP THIS RECORDING CHART UNTIL ALL MAKEUPS ARE COMPLETED.

GRADING: THE STANDARDS AND EXPECTATIONS OF THIS CLASS ARE HIGH; MEDIOCRITY IS NOT ACCEPTED.  DO NOT EXPECT AN AUTOMATIC 'A' SIMPLY BECAUSE THIS IS A PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS.  AN 'A' IS EARNED ONLY BY THOSE WHO ACHIEVE ALL THE STANDARDS AND EXPECATIONS SET FORTH.

APPROXIMATELY 30-40% OF YOUR SEMESTER GRADE IS BASED ON THE NUMBER OF WORKOUTS YOU SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE.  ANOTHER 50-60% COMES FROM PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS ON A VARIETY OF PHYSICAL TESTS SUCH AS PULLUPS, PUSHUPS, SITUPS, PACER, AND '300' WORKOUTS.  THE FINAL 10-20% COMES FROM EDUCATIONAL ASSIGNMENTS RELATED (BUT NOT LIMITED) TO TOPICS SUCH AS NUTRITION, DESIGN OF EXERCISE PROGRAMS, AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS.

GRADE SCALE:

90-100% = A;  80-89% = B;  70-79% = C;  60-69% = D; <59.9% = F
