Mrs. Rita Valencia
Welcome to English Language Acquisition. I am excited to help all second language learners acquire the necessary skills in English to graduate from Mesa High School and become productive members of society. I have been teaching for Mesa Public Schools as an English Language Development teacher for 17 years.
I grew up in Indiana and moved to Utah right after high school to attend Brigham Young University. I graduated from BYU with a BS in Sociology. After working as a substitute teacher for a couple of months, I decided to get my teacher certification. I continued my education by getting a MS degree from Northern Arizona University in Bilingual/Multicultural Education. I am highly qualified in English. I have my full ESL endorsement and Reading endorsement.
My husband and I have two beautiful daughters. Ariana is 8 and is in the third grade at Franklin a at Brimhall Elementary. Milan is 6 and is in second grade at Franklin too. We love to travel abroad. However, most of our vacations are spent in California at Disneyland.
I am excited to have the opportunity to teach students who speak a variety of languages and have different cultures.
