Goal:  Topreparestudentswiththeinformationandskillnecessarytosafelyoperateamotor vehicle.

Course Objectives: Attheconclusionofthiscourse, youshouldbeableto:

1. ApplytrafficlawsandtheRulesoftheRoadtovariousroadwaysituationsand conditions.

2. Developtheessentialdecisionmakingskillsforsafeoperationofamotor vehicle.

3. Describegeneralperformancecapabilitiesofmotorvehiclesaswellasphysical andnaturalfactorsthataffectvehiclecontrolsystems.

4. Describethelegalandmoralresponsibilitiesforapersoninvolvedinatraffic crashsituation, thefinancialresponsibilitylawandminimuminsurance coverage.

5. DemonstrateknowledgeoftheD.U.I.lawstoassurestudentsmakeappropriate decisionsinregardtotheuseofalcoholandotherdrugsbeforeoperatingor ridinginamotorvehicle.

6. Demonstrateabasicknowledgeofoperations, skills, andlawspertainingto motorcycleusageandtheirimpactonautomobiletraffic.

7. Demonstrateskillandcompetencyinperformingbasicmaneuversinoperation ofamotorvehicleunderactualdrivingconditions.

8. Developanunderstandingofbasiccarcare.

9. Understand how to negotiate all kinds of intersections.

SpecificCourseActivities Studentswill:

1. Participatein15drivinglessons.

2. BeabletoapplytheRulesoftheRoad, textbookreadings, andhandoutsto behindthewheelsituations.

3. StudentandParentwillsuccessfullyundertandMPSBehindtheWheelPacket.

4. Participateinclassdiscussions.

GradingCriteria Studentswillreceivealettergradeforthe class.  Driver’s Education is considered an elective.Behind‐ the‐wheelphase will include a separate certificate once BTW is completed.

GradingScale Classroom:  A=99‐90, B=89‐80,C=79‐70,D=69‐60,Lessthen59.9%=F 



 

 

Standard Testing: There will be twelve to eighteen Chapter testsgivenintheclassroom setting.

Eachtestisworth 100points. Simulator driveswillbeworth 100points.



Thefinalexamisacumulativeofallchapter testsandisworthapossibleonehundred points.

Extracreditassignmentsare NOTavailableto students. (Some circumstances- maybe)

Make­up&LatePolicy:  Allmissingwork canbemadeupforpartialcredit.

ClassroomExpectations&Options

1.       ObtainanArizonainstructorpermitandholdforatotalofsixmonths. (Must be 15 years 6 months to obtain a permit)

2.       Get an Arizona Driver’s License.

3.       Receive a certificate at the completion of the semester.

*To receive a certificate at the end of the semester the student must earn an A/B in class and have 9 or under absences.

       4. Complete6hoursbehindthewheelinstruction (optional at the end of the semester for $225)

       5. Become a safe responsibly, low risk driver.
