Mr. T.J. Hagen
Mr. Hagen is a Biology teacher and Head Men's Varsity Soccer Coach. The 2021-22 School year will be his 26th year as a teacher, all spent at Mesa High. He attended Irving and Robson elementary, Taylor Jr. High and graduated in 1991 from Mesa High. He graduated from Arizona State University in 1996 with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education, with an emphasis in Biological Sciences, and began teaching at M.H.S. in the fall of 1996.
Over the years Mr. Hagen has been a part of many things at Mesa High. He is or has been a member of many committees and groups on campus, including Talent Show host/EmCee, Assembly host and speaker, member of the Principal's Council and Executive Producer of Mesa High Survivor. He currently serves as a Team Leader for the Campus Super 6 Faculty teams.
Coach Hagen has been the head Boys Varsity coach for 25 years. He has won 287 games as a head coach and was named the 2109 N.F.H.S. United States Region 7 High School Boys Soccer Coach of the Year. He is also currently the AIA Class 6A Boys Soccer State Representative. Over the years he has also been named Arizona State Division I Coach of the year in 2013 as well as Section Coach of the year 3 times (2013, 2014, 2016) He has also been named Mesa City coach of the year 6 times (2007, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018) and East Valley Tribune Coach of the Year twice. Coach Hagen holds a state D USSF Coaching license, has coached numerous area club teams at all levels (u-6 to u-18), played High school soccer at Mesa High, college soccer for the University of Arizona (1 season) and Arizona State University (4 seasons) as well as played professionally in 2000 for the Arizona Sahuaros outdoor team. He continues to play in various men’s leagues both indoor and outdoor. Coach Hagen has also coached several other sports over the years including Girls and Boys Cross Country and Boys JV Volleyball - along with an appearance as the Badminton and Girls Basketball coach.
Mr. Hagen has been married for 22 years and has 3 sons (1 attending Mesa High School) and a beautiful daughter. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, travelling, playing sports and going up north and fishing and hiking. He also loves Star Wars and Marvel. Teaching is the job he was meant to do and is so glad to be at Mesa High wearing the Purple and Gold. "Carry On!"
