    Mesa’s Gold Seal

If you are in high school in Mesa Public Schools (9th to 12th grade), you can earn the Honor for Excellence in Service Learning, a gold seal on your diploma that shows you have give 150 or more hours of service to your community. The information, rules, and forms you need to fill out are on this website under, “Honor.” If you are volunteering as a teacher’s aide, as part of a club, or on your own out in the community, be sure to look at the Option B paperwork. YOU MUST TURN IN YOUR APPLICATION AND GET A TIMECARD BEFORE YOU START!

The Summer Rules

  • Option B hours must be pre-approved by a Mesa schools “Service Learning Coach” or the Service Learning Director BEFORE the hours start to “count.”
  • It is best if this application is turned in to the student’s Service Learning Coach before school is out for the summer, May 23, 2008.
  • If a student finds a good volunteer activity after May 23th, it still must be pre-approved, but the process will be more difficult. Students must find and meet with one of the following teachers:
  • Ms. Bertolet at the Service Learning Dept. located at Mesa High (1630 E. Southern Ave.) through May 28, 2008.
  • Mr. Johnson at Brimhall Junior High (4949 E. Southern Ave.in the gym) through July 10th (between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.).
  • If the service activities on the application are approved, the student will be given a timecard for each volunteer site.
  • While the student is volunteering over the summer, she/he should complete one timecard per site and have the supervisor sign the time card on the back.
  • The timecard will be due to the Service Learning Coach upon return to school in August. Graduating seniors will do their reflections in September.
