Because Ty brand Beanie Babies can be sterilized, they are used in baby cribs for positioning newborns and adjusting the wires and tubes around the babies. Why not add a handmade “Thinking of You” card to that delivery? Students may make generic or holiday cards, or…why not adopt a list of folks and send the same people a card for each special time of year? Call Lynne Van Gould at 480-962-5612 X 102 to get a list of names for your group (tell her how many), or arrange to drop off cards they will distribute as needed.

Students are invited to the
(VITA) needs tax preparers, greeters, screeners, and translators for their Mesaprogram which helps residents with basic 1040 returns. No experience is required; training is in January. VITA sites will be open February through April on weekdays and weekends. Contact Katie Brown, City of Mesa Neighborhood Services Volunteer Coordinator at 480-644-3705.
at Westwood will take place April 5th and 6th. Students raise funds before the event and then set up “camp” on Relay day and take turns running/walking around the track all night. Contact Michelle Broek at 602-778-7633 to sign up.

 

“Making a Safe Journey: Alzheimer’s and Safety Challenges Conference” at the Red Mountain Multigenerational Center on Saturday, Feb. 2nd from 8 am to 12:30 p.m. Attendees receive breakfast and hands-on sessions about how to deal with people with Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss. Great for students with Alzheimer’s in their family or volunteering with such folks. Register at 602-528-0545. A wonderful, free, very educational morning.
Souper Bowl of Caring
engages students of all ages in addressing hunger and poverty in their local communities while linking them to a national youth-led movement. Schools across the country participate during the week leading up to Super Bowl Sunday (Jan. 28th – Feb. 1st). To receive your FREE Resource Kit (which includes a DVD, posters, stickers, and more), register your group at www.souperbowl.org/schools. Organize a curriculum-based collection of money and food for our local food bank, and report your total to their website. Last year over 14,000 groups and 140,000 youth nationwide generated more than $8 million in donations to their neighbors in need.
