Illness

Keep you child home if he/she is running a fever, coughing, or has greenish/yellow drainage from the throat or nose. Your child needs to be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school. If your child is put on antibiotics, he/she must be on the medication for 24 hours before returning to school.

Student health insurance is available. For uninsured students, Kids Care and AHCCCs applications are available. See the nurse for details.

Accident insurance may be purchased by any student. You can pick up the application in the bookstore.

Occationally, students have chronic health conditions that cause additional absences. Contact Rosemary Powel to discuss whether the student's condition might qualify them to apply for the Instructional Agreement for Students with Medical Certificate of Absence Due to Chronic Health Problem. Most often, additional absences for illness can be appealed to the grade level administrator with documentation from the doctor and getting a form from the attendance office.

Injuries If your child is injured at school, the nurse or health assistant will provide first aid. If it is determined that your child needs further care, you will be notified. If we are unable to reach you by phone, someone on the emergency card, who you have listed, will be notified.

If your child is on a sports team and is injured while the sport is in-season, school AIA insurance may help with the medical bills. See the trainer, the coach, or the nurse for details.

Screening Vision and hearing screening is done on all new students to the district, special education students, and referred students.
Medications

All medications at school must be dispensed through the health office. The medication must come in its original container. The pharmaceutical label must be on the container of any prescription drug. The parent must fill out and sign a medication consent form available in the Health Center. Students that have asthma may carry their asthma inhalers with written consent from a parent. These consent forms are also available in the Health Center. For questions regarding medication distribution call Mountain View's nurse, Rosemary Powell, at 472-6931. It is the students responsibility to come get their medication.

A breathing machine is available for SVN treatments.
