Don't miss our "On the Road to College" night and other events

All students and their parents are invited on Thursday, January 26th to "On the Road to College" night, 7:00pm-9:00pm, hosted by the Mountain View Counseling staff.We will begin in the school auditorium and then break into our sessions. Here is a list of some of the sessions:

  • Special break out session for 9th/10th grade parents and students
  • Representatives from U of A and ASU
  • Community college representatives from Scottsdale C.C., Mesa C.C., and Chandler-Gilbert C.C.
  • Junior session on getting ready for college, what you need to know for your senior year.
  • Financial Aid
  • Career Center: Scholarships and resources

SENIORS:

We have several representatives making visits to campus in the next few weeks:

  1. University of Alabama, Tuesday, January 24th during 3rd hour
  2. Eastern Arizona College, Friday January 27th during 1st hour
  3. ASU, Monday, January 30th during 2nd hour (for students still needing help or who have questions
  4. ASU (Admitted student workshop), Thursday, February 16th, 2nd hour
  5. Fashion Institute of Design and Marketing, Thursday, March 1st, 3rd hour

If you would like to attend any of these presentations you must sign up in the Career Center and get a pass.

Scholarship meeting on Tuesday, January 24th during both lunches. We will be discussing the FAFSA

Here are a few scholarships I'd like to highlight this week:

  • Dorrance Foundation Scholarship: Be a first generation college student (neither parent holds a four-year degree), have a minimum 3.0 GPA, have scored a 1040 on your SAT or at least a 22 on your ACT and have financial need and plan to attend one of the 3 in-state universities.
  • Spotlight on Leadership: The Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring this $500 scholarship to seniors who demonstrate leadership skills at school, work, or in the community. Pick up an application in the Career Center.
  • Desert Club: Rank between 6% and 50% in your class, plan on staying in-state at a college or university and have financial need. February 1st is the deadline

 Juniors and Seniors:

Nominate your favorite teacher! 

You must write a 200 word essay along with your nomination. Your teacher could win $500 for use in their classroom. Stop by the Career Center to pick up a nomination form. Deadline for nomination is February 1st.

Looking for a Leadership Opportunity?!

Bank of America is looking for juniors and seniors with a passion for improving their community and are interested in improving their leadership skills! The student leaders selected within the US will participate in:

  • An eight-week paid internship at a charitable organization
  • Attend a week-long Student Leadership Summit in Washington, DC (July) to gain valuable civic, social and business leadership skills (all expenses paid as part of the Student Leaders Program).

All students who took the ASVAB in December your results are in.  We will be having a representative come from the government to interpret the results and give a short personality test. A pass will be sent to your class for you to attend on Thursday, February 2nd during 3rd hour.

Juniors interested in a career in medicine can now apply to attend U of A's Med-Start summer program.  The deadline is February 1st.
