Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year and Mr. Stapley's English class! I am excited to share this new part of my journey and create the most enjoyable and rewarding classroom environment possible. My three primary goals are to 1) help each student exceed his or her potential in the classroom, 2) help students realize the unlimited potential that awaits, 3) develop strong writing skills through simplicity, organization, and imagination.
I am a fifth generation native of Mesa and proud father of three amazing children. I grew up in Mesa Public Schools and graduated here at Mountain View in 1994. After earning a bachelor's degree in English Literature from ASU, I taught school on a part time basis while spending many years as a freelance sports writer with the Arizona Republic and East Valley Tribune newspapers. I continued my freelance work while transitioning into the real estate profession for much of the last decade. My full time teaching experience includes Basha High in Chandler and most recently at Dobson High School.
Growing up through school, like most other students, English class and writing were not exactly my favorite past time. However, I always held a strong affection for the sports page, and a full morning read became one of favorite routines. It was in college where I decided I wanted to become a sports writer. This led to my decision to major in English, where I developed an interest and appreciation for the power of the written word. My professional experience has allowed me the opportunity to help others not only learn, but enjoy the development of strong writing skills and reading comprehension.
