Hello students, parents and friends,
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. I am looking forward to working with you in the Economics course and Advanced Placement U.S. Government /Advanced Placement Macroeconomics class and remain confident we will all be most successful. This is my 20th year at Mountain View and my 38th year teaching Social Studies. I graduated in 1980 from the University of Arizona (Agriculture scholarship, grew up on the westside of the valley on a small, humble ranch---more about that throughout the year) majoring in History, with a minor in Economics, and earned my Masters in Secondary Education from Northern Arizona University in 2006. I am a member of the National Council for the Social Studies (1982- present) and the Foundation For Teaching Economics (2004-present).
I previously taught in Mesa from 1984-1991 at Fremont and Hendrix Junior Highs; prior to my return I was at Mountain View Marana (1991-1999) teaching World History, AP Government and AP Micro & Macroeconomics. Along with instructing Social Studies classes, I'm excited to continue co-coaching the Academic Decathlon team with Sasha Litzenberger; this year's topic: The 1960s- A Transformational Decade.
Outside of the school day I have many interests including reading (political thrillers, biographies, current affairs), biking (canal system near my handsome spacious south central Phoenix home), hiking (Phoenix Mountain Preserve) and attending music events (country, ambient, rock, trance/EDM). Here's to a challenging, enthusiastic & rewarding school year and remain comfortable communicating with me whenever you feel the need. (Photo below Skagway, Alaska)
