II am a product of Mesa Public Schools. I attended Stevenson Elementary, Fremont Junior High, and Mesa High School. After graduation, I attended Mesa Community College and then transferred to Arizona State University. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 2000. I worked as an agricultural chemist for a few years. During these years, I attended Rio Salado College to earn my teaching credentials. I taught at Poston Junior High from 2002 to 2011. I have been at Mountain View High School since 2011. I earned a Master's Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Arizona State University in 2005 and completed coursework to earn my English as a Second Language endorsement shortly thereafter. I recently completed coursework for a National Science Foundation grant through Arizona State University to help increase awareness of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields. The goal was to increase the number of students that leave high school and pursue careers in these areas by demonstrating that these careers are fun and fulfilling. I also participated in a Science Foundation of Arizona grant that is helping to bring biotechnology to the high schools. Biotechnology is a rapidly growing field and is the face of biology in the future. I have earned two additional Master’s Degrees, both from Western Governors University; one in biological education and one in chemical education. I believe that science should be learned the same way that science is done by scientists; that is by doing it. I believe science is fun and my goal is that my students walk away as problem solvers that know how to do science and know that exploring the world around us can be both fun and rewarding.
