My name is Mark R. Sandomir. I am currently Science Department Chair at Mountain View High School and I will be your child’s teacher this year in Honors Chemistry. I have been a teacher at Mountain View for the last thirty years years and I have loved every bit of it. I have Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Zoology. I also have a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Science Education which I picked up after a 10 year stint in the corporate world.
Most of my research has been in the areas of embryonic heart development, artificial intelligence and the use of metaphoric language as a vehicle for describing complex scientific concepts. I have also done some work with ASU dealing with urban pollution.
I suppose I could have sought a university position, but my inclination had always been toward working with adolescents. I guess that makes me a field researcher of sorts and I have certainly approached my work from a scientific perspective. For me, the idea of cultivating and enriching the thinking of young people was too irresistible to ignore. So, I forsook the Ivory Tower in order that I might plow the field. The work is a little grittier, but I've never regretted that decision. Oh, every now and then kids can be a bit frustrating, but as a rule they have been a joy to work with. They have grayed the hair a bit, but they have also kept me young.
