Frequently Asked Questions
What is Junior High Festival Orchestra (JHFO)?
Mesa Public Schools sponsors a Junior High Festival Orchestra each school year. These honor ensembles are made up of some of the best musicians from all Mesa Public Schools.
Who is eligible for JHFO membership?
Seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students who attend a Mesa Public School and who are members in good standing in their school’s orchestra program are eligible to become Junior High Festival Orchestra members.
How do I get in JHFO?
Students are selected to be part of the Junior High Festival Orchestra based on their performance at an adjudicated audition. In order to be scheduled for an audition time, students and their parents must fill out an audition application form and ask their orchestra teacher to sign and return the form to the Mesa Public Schools Music Education Department before the deadline of Friday, January 9th, 2009 no later than 4:00pm.
When and where are auditions?
Auditions will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Brimhall Junior High School (4949 E. Southern Avenue). Audition times will be sent to your school and posted on the website approximately two weeks prior to the day of auditions.
How do I prepare for the audition?
Audition materials have been sent to all MPS orchestra teachers. Students should practice each of the required excerpts and memorize each of the required scales.
