Board adopts future school year calendars
On April 24, the Governing Board approved calendars for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years.
The 2013-14 and 2014-15 calendars are similar to the current calendar, with one-week breaks in October and March. The calendar for next year (2012-13) was adopted in 2010.
|First day of school||Aug. 7||Aug. 6|
|Fall break||Oct. 7-11||Oct. 6-10|
|Winter break||Dec. 23 - Jan. 3||Dec. 22 - Jan. 2|
|Spring break||March 17-21||March 16-20|
|Last day of school||May 22||May 21|
The board members considered many factors before reaching a decision, including student achievement, state requirements, holidays, testing and weather. They expressed appreciation to the more than 4,000 parents, students, staff and community members who provided feedback through the online form.
The board felt the current calendar model best met the diverse needs of the parents, staff and district. It provides a balanced schedule of breaks, maximizes instructional time prior to state testing and is cost effective.
