Lowell celebrates Library Resource Center grand opening
Lowell Elementary students and staff say "thank you" to Target Stores and Heart of America Foundation.
The delight was apparent on the children’s faces as they entered the newly renovated Library Resource Center at Lowell Elementary School.
Students filled the Mesa campus on the last day of fall break to see how the old library had been transformed over the past few weeks into a bright and child-friendly space.
Sandi Kuhn, principal, said the new Library Resource Center will be a wonderful place for students to enjoy books.
The renovation was a gift from Target Stores and Heart of America Foundation.
It was among 17 similar projects throughout the United States. The renovations culminated on Oct. 16 with an open house at each school.
Inside the center, the students found everything new from floor to ceiling. More than 200 volunteers from local Target Stores prepared the space for the children’s arrival. They put together the new shelving and organized all of the books, including 2,000 new ones.
Target Store volunteers were available throughout the campus to help students with coloring activities, offer a snack, hand out a stack of books to take home and provide tours of the new Library Resource Center.
