Mesa students named National Merit, National Achievement semifinalists
This year's National Merit semifinalists represent Dobson, Mountain View, Red Mountain and Westwood high schools. The district's National Achievement semifinalist attends Mesa High.
National Merit semifinalists
Mesa Public Schools fielded 14 semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program:
- Dobson: David Martinez
- Mountain View: Jordan Campbell, Julia Guo, Clayton Hooper, Cynthia Li, Marlee Mason, Marsie Trego and Angela Zhang
- Red Mountain: Matthew Anderson
- Westwood: Andrew Lei, Jordan Meng, Jennifer Palmer, Bowen Shaner and Andrew Sherrard
These academically talented high school seniors represent less than 1 percent of seniors nationwide. They are the highest-scoring students on the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Founded in 1955, and privately funded, National Merit honors the nation's scholastic champions and encourages the pursuit of academic excellence.

- Mesa High: Stephanie Berry
The National Achievement Scholarship Program, conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, is a privately financed academic competition that operates without government assistance. It was initiated in 1964 to provide scholarships to a substantial number of the most outstanding program participants.
