Celebrate National School Bus Safety Week

Join MPS in observing National School Bus Safety Week. Oct. 22-26 is a great time to thank those who keep our children safe as they travel to and from school.

Transportation— By Ron Latko, transportation and fleet management director

As we approach National School Bus Safety Week — Oct. 22-26 — it gives me great pride to work with the finest professionals in the industry.

Our Pupil Transportation Safety and Training Academy is second to none.

We cannot forget the incredible support our expert drivers receive from the outstanding vehicle maintenance staff, extraordinary supervisors, office staff and bus aides, who represent the best in their fields.

In addition to safety and service, our mission in Transportation focuses on “prudently managing our resources” in the forefront of all we do — from the types of vehicles we run, the fuel we use and routing efficiencies, to idling reduction and reducing our paper consumption — all while supporting the educational goals of the district. We believe it is incumbent on everyone to be financially and environmentally responsible in everything they do.

This is a great time to join us in expressing your thanks to those who work so diligently to keep our 23,751 bus riders safe as they travel to and from school.
