Welcome to First Grade  

First grade is such a fun and exciting time of growth!
At Patterson Elementary, we enjoy every minute of
teaching and learning, and it certainly fills each and
every day! 

READING

In first grade we apply phonics as part of our daily curriculum. We do reading groups and centers. We also do tutoring two days per week with 1 child per day.

We learn many math skills in first grade, such as: addition, subtraction, time, money, geometry, problem solving, graphing, place value, math facts and math centers. We are also starting our measuring unit for math.

In spelling and language we are learning regular & challenge lists plus bonus tests on Friday. In language we are working on sentence structures, punctuation marks, story writing, blends and diagraphs.
