What is Title 1?

Every Student Succeeds Act - The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), signed into law in December of 2015, is the successor to No Child Left Behind(NCLB), making it the newest installment of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965. This new law restores the authority in education policy to states and local education agencies(LEAs).

Title I is a section of Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) that established these programs. It is formula funded based on poverty levels, but the services provided are for students at-risk of meeting Arizona's College and Career Ready Standards in reading and math, so that they can improve their skills, succeed in the regular classroom, and reach grade-level proficiency.

Mesa's Title I Programs serve students from pre-school through junior high. Parental involvement is critical for students' success. Each site develops a School Continuous Improvement Plan which includes goals based upon multiple sources of data and research-based programs and strategies. It is our goal to bring the resources of the home and school together to help our students achieve.
