A – Start at the top line; draw the slanted left line to the bottom line; pick up the pencil go back to the top and start at the dot again; draw the slanted right line to the bottom line; go the left slanted line on the middle line and draw the line across the A ending on the right side.

a – Start at the red dot; go up to the middle line and around like a circle; keep going up to connect the line and continue to the middle line; WITHOUT picking up your pencil go back down drawing the short line. This is one of the hardest letters. Children want to draw a circle and a line. If done correctly, the circle and line will be one connected motion ending in a complete letter. WE DO NOT PICK UP THE PENCIL ON THIS LETTER.

B – Start at the red dot; draw the straight line down to the bottom line; pick up the pencil and return to the red dot; create the “3” shape WITHOUT picking up your pencil. Please make sure the middle section goes all the way to the straight line.

b – Start at the top red dot; go all the way down to the bottom line; “bounce” back up the line and around to form the circle. We DO NOT pick up the pencil on the lower case b.

C – Start at the red dot; go up to the top line; and around like you are making a circle; but stop before the middle line.

c – Start at the red dot; go up to the middle line; and around like you are making a circle; stop before connecting.

D – Start at the red dot on the top line; go down to touch the bottom line; pick up the pencil; return to the top red dot; add the half circle.

d – Start at the red dot (similar to the a); go around like a circle; this time go all the way up to the top line; next go all the way down to the bottom line. (this letter is done without picking up the pencil)

E – Start at the top red dot; go straight down; pick up the pencil; return to the dot; slide across the top line, slide across the middle line, slide across the bottom line.

e – This is also a very difficult letter – you start at the red dot which is located on the semi-circle but on the straight line; the straight line is the first line; you go straight across; pause (for a straight corner) and around like a “c”. (this letter is done without picking up the pencil)

F - Start at the top red dot; go straight down; pick up the pencil; return to the dot; slide across the top line, slide across the next line.

f – Start at the top of the cane at the red dot; go up to touch the top line; and follow the curve down to a straight line; pick up the pencil; draw the middle line from left to right

G - Start at the red dot; go up to the top line; and around like you are making a circle; but stop at the middle line; pause for a nice corner and draw the middle line from right to left. (this letter is written without picking up the pencil)

g - Start at the red dot; go up to the middle line and around like a circle; keep going around and continue to the middle line; WITHOUT picking up your pencil go back down drawing the line that continues under the main writing line creating a curve.

H – Start at the top red dot on the left line; draw the straight line down, pick up the pencil; go over slightly; draw another line down from the top to the bottom line; go back to the right side and on the middle line draw the middle line from left to right.

h – Start at the top red dot; go down to form the straight line, go back up the line and start curving to make the last stroke on the h. This letter is written without picking up the pencil.

I – Start at the top red dot; draw the straight line down first; pick up the pencil and go back to the top; move over slightly and draw the line across the top (left to right); pick up the pencil; go to the bottom and move over slightly to draw the bottom line (left to right).

i – Start this letter at the top of the middle line; go straight down; pick up the pencil; “TAP” to make the dot. Children usually want to draw a big fat circle on top. This will not be encouraged. The dot at the top of the “i” is only as big as the pen/pencil which is being used.

Start at the top red dot; the line is drawn straight down while curving the end like a hook. Children will be taught that the “

” is NOT capped. Many computer fonts cap the

“J” but in school correct formation is with no top line.

j – Start at the middle line at the red dot; draw the line down below the main line and curve it like a hook; pick up the pencil; add the “TAP” dot. The dot is not meant to be a circle it is only meant to be a tap of the pen/pencil which is being used.

K – Start at the red dot at the top of the line; draw the line straight down; pick up the pencil; move over slightly; start at the top line and draw the slanted line down to the middle line connecting at the straight line; PAUSE; continue the slanted line down the opposite direction. The pencil is only picked up from the paper once when writing this letter.

– Start at the top red dot; draw the straight line down; pick up the pencil; go to the

middle line move over; draw the slanted line down connecting about halfway between the middle and bottom line; PAUSE; continue the slanted line down in the opposite direction. The pencil is only picked up once when writing this letter.

L – Start at the top red dot; continue down the straight line; PAUSE; continue drawing the bottom line from left to right. This letter is written without picking up the pencil.

l – Start at the top red dot; continue down to the bottom line.

– Start at the top red dot; draw the straight line down; pick up the pencil; return to the top red dot; draw the slanted line down to the bottom line; PAUSE; draw the slanted line up to the top line; PAUSE; draw the straight line back down to the bottom line. The pencil is only picked up once when writing this letter.

m – Start at the middle red dot; draw the line down to the bottom line; pause and return back up the same line; begin to curve the line; return back to the bottom line; pause;

return back up the line continuing to curve again; return back to the bottom line. This letter is written WITHOUT picking up the pencil.

N – Begin at the top line at the red dot; go straight down; pick up the pencil; return to the top red dot; draw the slanted line down; PAUSE; draw the line up to the top line. (The pencil is only picked up once when writing this letter)

n – Start at the middle line at the red dot; go down; pause and continue back up the same line curving as it is written; go back down to the bottom line. The pencil is not picked up when writing this letter.

O – Start at the red dot just below the top line; go up to the top line and around like a circle; connect the line with the starting line.

o – Start at the red dot just below the middle line; go up the middle line and around like a circle; connect the line with the starting line.

P – Start at the top line at the red dot; draw the straight line down; pick up the pencil; go back to the top line; start at the red dot and make the curved line connecting it on the middle line with the first straight line.

p – Start at the middle line on the red dot; draw the line down below the main writing line; pause; continue back up the line and curve around to form the circle section. This letter is written without picking up the pencil.

Q – Start at the red dot just below the top line; go up to the top line and around like a circle; connect the line with the starting line; pick up the pencil go toward the bottom and draw a short straight line through the circle to make the Q

Start at the red dot just below the middle line; go up to the middle line and around to

form the circle (similar to the a, d, g) without picking up the pencil continue back up to the middle line and back down the same line and under the main writing line. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS YOUR CHILD WILL DRAW A STRAIGHT LINE NOT A CURVED LINE IN CLASS. IT WILL LOOK LIKE A REVERSE CHECKMARK. (we do not pick up the pencil when writing this letter)

R – Start at the top line at the red dot; go down the straight line; pick up the pencil; return to the top red dot; begin the curve line similar to a B, make sure to touch the middle line with the first straight line; PAUSE; draw the slanted line. The pencil is only picked up once when writing this letter.

r – Start at the middle line at the red dot; go down to the bottom line and back up the same line adding the curve but stopping before returning to the bottom line. This letter is written without picking up the pencil.

S – Start at the red dot just below the top line; start drawing the curved line up to the top line and curving down toward the middle line; continue curving in the traditional S shape.

s – Start at the red dot just below the middle line; start drawing the curved line up to the middle line and curving down toward the bottom line; continue curving in the traditional S shape.

T – Start at the top line at the red dot; draw the main line down first; pick up the pencil; move over slightly on the top line; draw the top line from left to right.

– Start at the top line at the red dot; draw the main line down first; pick up the pencil;

move over slightly on the middle line; draw the middle line left to right.

U – Start at the left side at the top red dot; draw the line down; curve as you go; finish at the top line.

u – Start at the middle line on the red dot; draw the line down curving around and back up to the middle line; PAUSE; go back down to form the straight line. The pencil is not picked up when writing this letter.

V – Start at the top line; draw the slanted line down; PAUSE; return back to the top by drawing another slanted line. The pencil is not picked up when writing this letter.

v – Start at the middle line at the red dot; draw the slanted line down; PAUSE; return back to the middle line by drawing the second slanted line. The pencil is not picked up when writing this letter.

W – Start at the top line at the red dot; draw the slanted line down; PAUSE; continue the slanted line up; PAUSE; continue the slanted line back down; PAUSE; continue the slanted line up. This letter is written without picking up the pencil.

w – Start at the middle line at the red dot; draw the slanted line down; PAUSE; continue the slanted line up; PAUSE; continue the slanted line back down; PAUSE; continue the slanted line up. This letter is written without picking up the pencil

X – Start at the red dot on the top line; the first line is from left to right; pick up the pencil; the second slanted line is from right to left.

x – Start at the red dot on the middle line; the first line is from left to right; pick up the pencil; the second slanted line is from right to left.

– Start at the top line at the red dot; draw the first slanted line from left to right

stopping at the middle line; pick up the pencil; return to the top line; move over slightly; draw the second slanted line to the middle line; PAUSE; draw the straight line down. The pencil is only picked up once when writing this letter.

y – Start at the middle line at the red dot; slide down to the bottom line; pick up the pencil; move over slightly on the middle line; draw the slanted line down below the main writing line.

Z – Start at the red dot on the top line; draw the line from left to right; PAUSE; draw the slanted line; PAUSE; draw the straight line along the bottom line. This letter is written without picking up the pencil.
