        research techniques using encyclopedia, atlas, almanac, dictionary and thesaurus
how to use the computer catalog and Dewey decimal system

To celebrate National Poetry Month in April, each student will select,
practice and recite a poem in the Media Center.

The Media Center will display student work throughout the year.
Be sure to stop in for a look at all the wonderful globes, maps,
houses, masks, dinosaurs and other student projects that are displayed.

Battle of the Books is for 5th & 6th grade students. 
Students will be placed in teams of 3 and be responsible for reading 4 books per battle.
There are 3 Battles per year (which are held in Porter's Media Center)and the team with the most points
will represent Porter at the semi-finals in May. Check back for more detailed information or call  472-6691.
Parents are welcome to attend. Be sure to check in at the office and pick up a visitor badge.

The Porter Post is open for business!  Students were given a lesson on
how to write a letter and correctly address envelopes.  Students can send
letters to other students here at Porter.  We hope you will encourage
your students to use the Porter Post mail service.
 
Star1.wmf (10358 bytes)BEHAVIOR - Good behavior in the Media Center is expected from all students at Porter:
        listen carefully
        follow directions
        treat books and equipment with respect
        use quiet voices
        do not disturb or distract others
        keep hands and feet and objects to themselves
 
Students who are having a difficult day will receive a reminder,
then a warning, then a seat change and a conference.
