Our mascot is a pride of lions. This symbol truly represents the philosophy we believe in and practice here at Porter.  Porter's pride embodies our hard working students, supportive parents, our extended community and our entire dedicated staff.  A pride functions and grows governed by qualities and characteristics we believe in and model here at Porter.  These qualities and characteristics are trust, each individual of the pride is responsible in maintaining a safe, orderly and positive environment, cooperation, sharing, honor, respect and a conviction that every individual has a responsibility and commitment to enrich the entire pride's existence and future.

Please make it a point to visit our "pride".  You will see students and staff actively engaged in learning, sharing and enjoying each other’s companionship.  Parents are encouraged to visit and are always welcomed.   We have an open door policy here at Porter. We do require all parents and visitors to make an appointment to ensure an orderly learning environment. Please use the main doors off of Lindsay St. and to check into the office area.   We have two very active and involved parent support groups, P.O.P., (Parents of Porter) and SIAC, (School Improvement Advisory Council).  Our P.O.P. meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month. SIAC begins at 4:00 PM until 5:00PM and P.O.P. meeting begins at 6:30 PM.  This web site provides additional specific information on these very important parent support groups.  Please attend one or both of these important meetings. We have a highly experienced, knowledgeable and dedicated group of caring teachers.  Porter's teachers are continually developing their professional skills by implementing state of the art, innovative and highly motivational approaches to academic achievement and motivation.   Our teachers need your input and cooperation to help provide the support that will best support our student’s academic, social and emotional growth.   Teachers offer our Young Authors Program, Family Math and Reading Nights, Open Houses, Parenting Skills Classes, Orchestra, and Choir Concerts, Art Exhibits, and a variety of activities during Red Ribbon Week.   Porter is a violence and drug/smoke free zone.  Our Cultural Awareness Committee is very active by providing programs throughout the school year in promoting and celebrating the wide religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds of our students and community.  The Cultural Awareness Committee also provides a special week of festivities celebrating our schools and communities cultural diversity.  Very important parent volunteers support all of these outstanding programs and activities.

Our students are actively involved in a wide variety of community activities.  We frequently host community guest speakers, 6th grade students hike the Grand Canyon, fieldtrips to the Phoenix Zoo, our local fire station, museums, theatrical and musical performances, and we encourage our students and their families to participate in community volunteer work. Our students, staff and parents are very active in supporting community social service organizations AND efforts. This active involvement includes: an annual school wide can food drive, making and providing quilts and hats to the homeless and needy, in April of 2002 we raised over $1,200.00 in the fight against cancer, and through a variety of environmental and services orientated activities.

I am very proud and enthusiastic to be a part of such a fine educational institution.  As a school that has developed and maintained an outstanding reputation within the Mesa School District, we are committed in providing to you the best educational experience possible for your child.

Our goal is for every student who attends Porter is to believe and realize they are a remarkably, and successful learner. A young person dedicated to being a positive and independent contributor to the "Porter Pride".  Mastery, Independence, Generosity, and Belonging  are the corner stones and benchmarks of our student’s success. In order for these goals and benchmarks to be achieved we need your continued support, constructive input, and active involvement.

Please Visit Porter Elementary and Find a Way to Get Positively Involved,
Mr. Tony LaMantia
