Hello Poston Families,
Hope you all are well. A few topics to update you about:
COVID Update – As of Thursday, November 19th, Poston has 3 active cases. At this there doesn’t appear to be a correlation between the three cases. Students and staff are actively participating in all COVID mitigation guidelines which is keeping staff and students safe. With that said, COVID is very active in our community. Please follow the guidelines from Maricopa County Health Dept. regarding quarantine guidelines when you have been in close contact with a symptomatic person. If someone in your household tests positive for COVID When in doubt please contact the Poston Health Office at 480-472-2052 or 480-472-2053. You can leave a message and they will get back with you. You can also review the MPS dashboard and guidelines.
Water Bottles Needed – You may remember that back in September our Poston Parent Network reached out for water bottle donations for students who forget their water bottles. We were very grateful for those donations. As the semester has progressed, our supply has dwindled. We are requesting cases of water bottles to replenish our supply. These may be dropped off in our front office between 8-5pm. The water bottles are kept in the health office and teachers can send students there for a free water bottle. Any donations will be appreciated.
Poston Outfitters Company – this community project is a joint venture with NJHS, Service Learning, Student Council, and staff. Poston Outfitters Co. is a student clothing boutique that will be available for all students. This boutique is supported by student work, Poston’s PBIS program, and donations of slightly used, stylish, name-brand clothing. Students will have the opportunity to shop at the store using PAWS tickets as currency. We are looking to our community for donations. As you prepare for the holidays and clean out closets and draws, please donate new and gently used clothing and accessories. These can be dropped off in Poston’s front office. These items will be sorted, laundered, folded, and displayed for shoppers in our store. We are currently working with a local designer to create a shopping experience where all students will want to shop. Keep an eye out for additional information about the Poston Outfitters Company.
Grade Check – Make sure to check in with your student and their grades through the Parent Portal. We are about halfway through 2nd Quarter, so now is the time for students to review missing assignments and working with their teachers to improve their grades. If you don’t have access to your Parent Portal, contact our front office for information to connect.
Monday, November 30th Remote Learning for all Students – Remember that Monday November 30th is a remote learning day for all students (this includes Self-contained Special Education classes). On Monday, students will need to log onto Canvas for each class to complete work for that day. Teachers will be working from home and will not provide live class lessons. They will be working on plans for the rest of the semester and the beginning of next semester. Remember that attendance will be taken as they log onto classes.
We hope that you have a great Thanksgiving Holiday. Be cautious and safe. Also, if someone in your home become symptomatic with COVID-19 symptoms make sure to get tested and keep your student at home until you receive test results.
Mr. Rapier, Principal
