Biography
I have been at Poston since 1982. Prior to that I taught in the Higley district for three years. I earned my Bachelor's and Master's degree from ASU (GO DEVILS). Member of the ASU Track team as a javelin thrower for four years. I am the 9th grade Track and Cross Country coach. My goal as a teacher is to instill a life-long love and habit of physical activity in all of my students. PE should be enjoyable, educational, and full of activity. Interpersonal skills are also an important aspect of PE, with sportsmanship and teamwork being stressed.
PE07: Required one semester in 7th grade. This is a general PE class. Basic sports covered include Flag Football, Basketball, Soccer, Softball, Track & Field(Spring semester only), and Square Dance. Basic sports skills and strategies are taught. Every class begins with stretching and running, with a timed mile usually being run on Wednesdays.
PE08: Required one semester in 8th grade. Same basic structure as PE07.
PE34: An elective PE course that focuses more on team sports skills and concepts. This course is more drill and game oriented, with some physical conditioning without the weekly timed mile.
PE 25: Weight Training: PE elective open to 8th & 9th graders. Basic weight-lifting technique and training principles. Individual programs designed for specific sports and goals are stressed.
Students are expected to dress out and give a good effort on a daily basis. They should bring a parent note if there is a physical reason (illness or injury) that will not allow them to dress out and participate that day.
Grades are based on participation and effort. Students are compared only to their own skill and fitness level, not other students. Improvement is expected. Points are lost by non-dresses, poor effort, poor sportsmanship, and attendance.
Students should be writing their weekly mile times in their par books. They should also have a graph of fitness pre-test scores and mile times to check for effort and improvement.
